Vacancy: Dutch Teacher (0.8-1.0 fte)

From August 2025, the International School Hilversum is looking for an enthusiastic, creative and literature-loving Dutch teacher. For teachers with a love for literature education, the ISH is a dream school.

We are looking for:

  • A first-degree teacher of Dutch (but a background in Literary Studies or Classics is also no objection);
  • Someone with good communication and social skills;
  • A creative, flexible, independent and conscientious personality;
  • Someone with a good command of English.

Experience with IB education is desirable but not necessary. Anyone who recognizes themselves in this description is cordially invited to apply or to come and take a look at our school.

Our Diploma Program Literature, for example, is all about literature. The teacher studies original Dutch but also translated novels, plays and poems with relatively small classes. Teachers have room to incorporate their own favorites into the curriculum and the student population at ISH is eager to learn.

We offer different levels at the ISH. Our student population is very diverse, not only in terms of nationality, but also in terms of their command of Dutch. In the Dutch section, most teachers not only teach Dutch to students who are fluent in the language, but also NT2 to non-native speakers. The latter is not a requirement, however. The language of instruction at the ISH is English, but in the staffroom you can also hear all sorts of other languages. We have colleagues from Argentina, Spain, France, England, Romania, Canada, Sweden, etc.

Several teachers in the Dutch department have made the switch from a Dutch school to our international school in recent years. They are very positive about the ISH.

'I have become enthusiastic about education again,' says colleague Michael van Brummelen, 'because at this school I have a much clearer view of the goal of my lessons and I no longer concern myself with things that I experience as useless.'

The ISH is an International Baccalaureate (IB) school. This means, among other things, that our literature students do not take the standard Dutch exam, but an international exam. These exams are challenging and require not only excellent analytical skills, but also a good pen and in-depth knowledge.

Our values are compassion, ethics and integrity and we truly live our Mission - learning through diversity. We embrace technology and offer extensive access to professional development opportunities. We are in the heart of Hilversum within 10 minutes walk from Hilversum station or 5 minutes walk from Hilversum Sportpark station. We also have a parking space offering free parking to staff on the school grounds.

This position is for 5 days but with discussion we can consider 4 days if needed.

“The school’s positive culture and atmosphere is a major strength. Relationships between students and between students and staff are respectful, open, and honest.

This welcoming and warm culture embraces those joining the school either as a student or staff member easing their induction into the school.”
