How’s life? Let’s find out. On excursions to remember.

With ISH, students gain experience by experiencing life. While visiting places that stay with them. In the Netherlands, across Europe and even beyond. Because life is full of surprises. And that’s where learning happens, through real-world experiences.

Exploring. It’s in our nature.

Living in Hilversum means nature everywhere. So, from young to old, we go outside. To climb trees, spot animals, smell the mud, and breathe the air. This is where students understand how nature works and what it means. In real life. Ready to be discovered.

Activities that make students go go go. Together.

Energy. Effort. Endurance. And above all: team spirit. That’s what our group activities are about. Students push themself for the team. Reaching goals together.

Whether they’re scoring at the Goois Football Tournament,
or crossing rivers in the Belgian Ardennes as part of our school trips and excursions. They go all in. And get even more back.

Seeing things with our own eyes.

From a new perspective. Let’s meet Dutch Masters like Rembrandt or Van Gogh.

Or dive into modern art exhibitions that make them look again. Just watch and learn. Try and feel. And discover what’s happening here. These are the best educational experiences.

At the Aerospace Centre, the Hilversum Media Museum, the European Parliament, or in Rotterdam, the largest port in the world.

Europe is our backyard.

So, we go out and soak it all in. Monumental cities, hidden treasures, and famous museums. At ISH, it’s all within reach.

The Roman Empire in Italy. World War history in France. Picasso in Spain. And even eco education and glacier climbing in Iceland, offering true international exposure.

Excursions that matter. Experiences to remember. And so much fun.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award: beyond expectations

Some experiences take you further than you expected. The International Duke of Edinburgh’s Award gives students in Grades 10 and 11 the chance to step outside their comfort zone and discover what they are capable of. They hike, navigate, work together and take on real challenges. Like a two-day adventure in Luxembourg, where students found their route, set up camp and discovered that the real reward is finding out you’re capable of more than you ever expected.

The EU Erasmus+ Exchange: step into another life

Live life as someone else, somewhere else. Thanks to the EU Erasmus+ Programme, students exchange more than schools and locations. For a while, they step into the world of someone their own age. They spend time with their friends, see everyday life through their eyes and discover what matters to them. A unique opportunity to experience another life from the inside. And along the way, strangers become familiar and our students begin to appreciate each other in ways they never expected.

Questions about ISH excursions, answered.

How are excursions paid for?

Many excursions are part of everyday school life. Bigger trips are announced in advance, so families know what’s coming and can plan along.

Do all age groups go on excursions?

Yes. When children are younger, excursions stay close. As they grow, they become bigger, further away and more independent.

Are excursions safe and well organised?

Absolutely. Every excursion is carefully prepared and guided by experienced staff, with safety, wellbeing and age in mind.

How do excursions connect to learning?

We prepare projects at school and then see them come alive in the real world, as part of learning outside the classroom. Afterwards, students present and talk about what they discovered and use it in class.

How often do we go on excursions?

All year round. Excursions are memorable highlights students look forward to, from nearby trips to bigger adventures.
