600 trees 4

Today, our students at International School Hilversum had the privilege of being part of an extraordinary environmental effort as 160 of our students from grades 7 to 11, accompanied by staff, took part in planting over 600 trees (almost 800!).

This was at the site of a former A27 highway interchange, which is now being transformed into a thriving nature reserve near Hilversum.

The initiative, part of Hilversum’s 600th-anniversary celebrations, reflects our commitment to sustainability, community involvement, and education outside the classroom. The new green space is a symbol of how communities can reclaim and repurpose urban landscapes into thriving habitats for future generations.

We are especially proud of our students for their energy and enthusiasm during the day, planting trees that will stand as a testament to their dedication to environmental stewardship. The event has been covered in Hilversums Nieuws and De Gooi en Eemlander, emphasizing the positive impact of this transformation and our school’s contribution to the local community.

Thank you to Ms. Van Lemmen, Ms. Vint and Mr. Cornea and our Sustainability Committee for putting so much effort into pulling it all together. A very special shoutout to Ms. van de Moosdijk and all the volunteers at Goois Natuurreservaat for this effort to make Hilversum greener!
