olympiad first round jan 25

The first round of the Dutch Mathematics Olympiad was held in school on 23 January, and 50 ISH students, ranging from Grades 7 to DP1, participated in the event.

The Olympiad is an annual competition for all secondary school students who attend school in the Netherlands, including those from International schools, and it is available in both Dutch and English. The contest problems are playful but challenging, and they aim to test creativity as well as mathematical understanding.

Approximately 1000 of the best students (in 3 categories according to age) will be invited to particpate in the second round in March, and from these the 130 best students will be selected to attend the final, which takes place in September. From the winners of this final round students will be chosen to represent the Netherlands at three different international mathematical contests.

Every year, the Mathematics Olympiad grows in popularity at the ISH. It is successfully led by Ms Doux and her team of dedicated students who organise weekly training sessions.

Last year eight students made it to round 2, and three of those were invited to attend the final!

We want to thank Ms Doux and her team (Caterina – Grade 10, Anushka – DP1 and German – DP2).

We also wish all of our students the very best of luck, and we look forward to hearing the results of the first round!
