"This year Ms. Fürstenberg, Ms. Andersson and I were particularly happy to be able to celebrate this day with everyone, given the difficult circumstances surrounding Covid. Surprisingly, the epidemic actually led to a positive change, in that we had our first digital presentation from home, from Daniel Vesely, who was unable to be in school that day. Normally, that would have been the end of the presentation, but, thanks to our experiences with Teams, we were able to enjoy Daniel’s introduction to Slovak, with the help of our host, Pietro, who kept an eye on the slides in the library. Another first this year: we had DP1 students, Pietro, Laurens and Bram, hosting the morning part of the show. For those of you who are unfamiliar with our celebration day, it is a moment in the year when we focus on languages for the sake of their personal importance to us, rather than their use as vehicles for academic learning. Our presenters share with us not only the language, but also the culture and history. As Mr. Kevin Jones, who presented the Welsh language, reminded us: a language is a gift; we should appreciate and nurture those languages which form a part of who we are". - Written by Ms. Richards.
